Get your groove on!

Ok, so playlists might seem like a pretty random thing to find when I'm myofascial release therapist, BUT, bear with me and you'll soon be getting your groove on every day.

First of all, an admission. I love music, listening to music, finding new music and then listening over and over again to songs that flick some indescribable switch in my brain. One of my favourite past times as a kid was putting playlists together, taping songs from the charts and diligently writing the name of the song and artist on the cassette sleeve. Sharing playlists with friends and boyfriends was an integral part of bonding as I grew up. Now, we have more access than ever to music and I still find huge joy in making playlists with the random and eclectic music I have collected over the years, that I pick up from the radio and Shazam-ing from TV programmes.

So, I thought, why not share the love. Each playlist is a little insight into my musical world, music that makes me want to move and also it goes some way to justify the hours and hours I've spent going down music rabbit holes! It's also for you, to have some new music each week to move to and to add some joy into your movement.

Now, a bit of science and anecdotal evidence about moving to music:

One of the things I recommend to pretty much all my myofascial release clients is to move more everyday, actually what I suggest is that they dance whenever they get the opportunity. Arms and legs moving, hips shaking, maybe a bit of gyrating. Why? Because we're sat down and immobile for long periods of the day and our fascia doesn't like it. It gets stuck together and we feel creaky and stiff. Building in movement and mobility can counteract this, so why not dance?

I've had feedback from my clients that when they build dancing and moving to music into their day they feel physically and mentally better, and I can often feel the difference in their bodies during treatments.

There are more science backed reasons to move to music: Dancing releases endorphins, so it's a mood booster; it reduces cortisol, so it's a great stress reliever; it boosts creativity and cognitive function; when you're dancing you're not at a screen, and that's a good thing; letting loose to music can make you laugh and smile like nothing else; it can boost proprioception, balance and strength.

Anyway, I've put these playlists together for you to have 20 minutes of no holds barred movement, let loose, have a laugh, tap into your body and see how it feels, see what it's telling you and what it needs each day. I'll add a new one each week, you're welcome!
